Some income tax preparers have been acting as "tax experts" without having a clue about what they are doing. Since the IRS auditing division has been playing Rip Van Winkle, it has given a false sense of approval to the taxpaying public and has allowed these preparers to thrive. The IRS has been awakening from its audit slumber and is making promises of increasing its audit coverage. Hopefully this will discourage aggressive and ill-prepared tax preparers and makes it more important than ever for tax preparers to own good, up to date tax reference books. |
