Will You Accept Credit Cards?

Getting set up to accept credit cards is not without its costs. There are initial equipment costs and monthly fees. Call a credit card issuing bank and inquire about the costs associated with accepting credit cards. You may not have to open up a checking account with the bank that processes your credit cards.
I have been in business for twenty years and the subject of accepting credit cards comes up very rarely. I don't have a problem collecting payments for my services in cash or check. But, if you're interested, check out QuickBooks as they offer a credit card product that integrates with their accounting software.

Call QuickBooks merchant services at 1-800-966-0869 if you would like to offer credit cards with a terminal in your office. Be advised you will pay about $300 for the terminal and there are minimum monthly service and statement fees.

My recommendation is to start your tax preparation business without accepting credit cards and let your customers determine your actions on this subject. If you find there is a big need for credit cards then you can easily add this service later.
