Accounting Services

To become an accountant, you begin by studying accounting at a college or university. I received a Masters Degree in Professional Accounting from Georgia State University in Atlanta.  I received my accounting experience working as an accountant for the IRS in Atlanta and a tax accountant for SunTrust Bank in Atlanta.
Accounting has been described as the language of business. Furthermore, accounting is the process by which all businesses record and report their business transactions.  Financial statements are the result of business transactions passing through the accounting system. If you want to know whether you have a fever, you use a thermometer.  If you want to learn about the health of a business, read their financial statements.

I like to think of accounting services as being similar to a manufacturing plant. Every day businesses sell their products and services and the pay their employees, and operating expenses. At the end of the day, month, quarter and year, when all the accounting transactions have been recorded, the accountants prepare financial statements  and the accounting manufacturing plant closes down until the next business day.  So, the end product of the accounting manufacturing process is the financial statements. There are basically two financial statements that accountants prepare for every business; a Balance Sheet and Income Statement.

My accounting services include the preparation of monthly financial statements from information furnished by my clients. I use a very sophisticated accounting software program designed for professional accountants called Creative Solutions.  Today, accountants have lots of competitive accounting software packages to chose from.  Perhaps the number one accounting software package is QuickBooks.  QuickBooks is easy to use, is very forgiving and probably causes more problems than it solves.  It causes problems because the internal integrity of this accounting software program is too loose. And I disagree with their statement that users of QuickBooks do not need to be an accountant.

Accounting is becoming more computerized and accountants are becoming more computer savvy.  This is both good and bad. It’s good because we accountants are no longer recording business transactions in pen and ink and then making extensive use of an adding machine.  Today, accountants can go into Office Depot or Staples and buy QuickBooks off the shelf and begin recording business transactions. Accountants can discard their calculator.  I would venture a guess that many accounting careers are now obsolete because of computerized accounting programs. What’s bad about computerized accounting systems is that it’s harder to find a mistake and mistakes can be covered up without a permanent record being made. You still need an accountant who knows how transactions should be posted to fix input errors in accounting software programs.

I have been providing accounting services as a sole practitioner accountant for almost 20 years.  My accounting office is located in Union City, Georgia which is in the greater Atlanta, Georgia area. I compile financial statements, from information furnished by my clients, in accordance with Statements on Standards for Accounting and Review Services issued by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. These financial statements are useful in many cases to show if expenses have gotten out of line and if the business is taking on too much debt.

My accounting career covers 31 years in the Atlanta area and it has been a wonderful experience. In my accounting practice I have met many successful, hard-working small business owners who it has been a pleasure serving.    If you are in the Atlanta area or beyond, and need accounting, QuickBooks, payroll, investing or tax services, please call me at 770-969-9850.
